Drexel Dewrell McDaniel

U.S. Veteran

Drexel Dewrell McDaniel passed away at his home, of 33 years, on August 30, 2013. His heart and kidneys just gave out. Drexel was born on March 10, 1928 in Atwood, OK. to Jack and Irene Belle McDaniel. He received a BA in ED from East Central State College-OK, a MA in Ed from Eastern Michigan University, and an ED Specialist degree in Wayne State University – Michigan.

He was an educator and served his country through the Armed Forces of the United States during the Korean War. Hope hospice Color Guard honored him Aug.24, 2013 for his service in the Army which pleased him so much!

Up until a life changing car accident, he was a very physical person…rode horses, owned and rode motorcycles, yacht, and an airplane. Afterwards he explored painting portraits, mastering chess, building a “walking machine that worked” and an Ultralight aircraft. He also built a library of science and history books. Science became his true love after reading Stephen Hawking’s book – “A Brief History of Time”. He explored his own writings, including an adventure book, “The Seventh Man.

Drexel is survived by his wife, Gwen of 46 years, his sons Bruce Forester, James Clark and Derek McDaniel, and daughters Karla Stelljes, Susan Hiel and Marlyn Blair and his brothers James and Odell and sister Ruby. He has 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in OK, AR, MI, and FL. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 4141 DeLeon Street, Fort Myers, FL on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:30. Family and friends may sign the guest register at www.horizonfunerals.com.
